THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF ARCHIKIDS!

The Wonderful World of Archikids

“For two days it feels like children and their families hold the keys to London and creativity is the only currency that talks.”

Ben Long, artist

Walking through Broadgate during Archikids! is one of the greatest joys London can bring. Turn a corner and you’ll see a group of seven-year-olds building ambitious kites from pipe cleaners; small photographers capturing the city’s skyline (or pavement) and a careful recreation of the Eiffel Tower in pasta.

That’s because every July, central London’s places are transformed into an interactive festival for children aged five to 11 – a chance for them to explore and experience different parts of the city in a totally new way while unleashing their creative and scientific powers. With activities designed to spark their imagination, learning and technical knowhow, we’ve hosted everything from balloon car racing to a skatepark.

The brainchild of charity Open-City, Archikids! has hit a chord. In 2013, its first year at Broadgate, we welcomed 2,743 children. By 2017, we had a record-breaking 5,446 children take part in 32 creative events with support from 140 volunteers including architects, engineers, designers and artists. As one parent told Open-City, “The standout event for me was Saturday at Broadgate. It was interactive, messy and varied. A parent can ask for no more! Thank you!”

In July 2018, Archikids! will transform into Open House Family, expanding to even more buildings and spaces across the capital. So watch this space…
