Best for: carefully sourced wine and cocktails and catching up with friends

Tucked in the rolling greenery of Exchange Square right next to Fernando Botero’s beloved Broadgate Venus is Back to Mine.

An independent and female-friendly gem with seasonal cocktails (rhubarb, ginger and kumquat vodka collins) and mocktails, Beavertown and Lucky Saint craft beers and carefully chosen vegan wines, Back to Mine is a welcoming and warm place to catch up with your best friends. Dig into cheese and vegan cheese boards, toasties and small sharing plates of humous, olives, skinny fries and nachos. In the summer, it’s the place to be for frozen cocktails next to the big screen. Mr Foggs City Tavern

Best for: big celebrations and quiet escapes together – perfect for visiting guests who want some London vibes

A plush restaurant bar area with low lighting and red velvet furniture.

Inspired by the rich Victorian heritage of London (Bill Sikes passes through next-door Finsbury Square in Oliver Twist), Mr Foggs City Tavern is your answer to a thoroughly warm London welcome that works for big groups and small get-togethers with eccentric corners such as the calmer Saloon Bar for quieter catch-ups. With live karaoke brunching and free-flowing prosecco on weekends plus big screen sports and a huge outdoor seating area in the summer, Mr Foggs has every gathering covered. Transport yourself to la bella vita with Eataly’s elegantly designed Central Bar. Order at the bar to enjoy Italian spritzes, Peroni and Nastro Azzurro, prosecco and Italian reds and whites from Piemonte, Puglia and Tuscany. Best for: late incredible nights

The bar at Los Mochis

Los Mochis is a blast – and for drinks, head to the Agaveria & Lounge Bar. From the gorgeous interiors to the thoughtfully curated DJ playlists that go from laid-back vibes into uplifting anthems as the night gets going, this is the place to come for incredible agave cocktails, sake, tequila and mezcal and Japan-Mexican influenced celebrations. There’s no need to book for the bar but it’s first-come, first-served so get there early…

Nest

Best for: a go-to bar and pub to know near Liverpool Street

Expert mixologists, big-screen sports, a private area for parties, a loaded events menus (don’t miss their weekend brunches which are truly amazing) and brilliant offers make Nest one of the must-know places for easy meet-ups with friends and post-work drinks. The lunch menu has fish-finger sandwiches (the very best) while dinner includes nourishment bowls of houmous, cherry tomatoes, kale, edamame, carrots, avocado and tahini and beef chuck and rib double smash burger, American cheese, burger sauce, onions, pickles and skin-on fries.

Best for: the place to start your evening with cocktails

While Grind may be known for their coffee and brunches (with bottomless drinks), it’s also a go-to spot for cocktails, wine and beer on an evening – especially when the sun finally comes out thanks to its extensive alfresco seating… Cocktails include their signature Grind Espresso Martini (of course), Long Island Iced Tea (42 Below vodka, Bombay Sapphire gin,  El Jimador reposado tequila, Bacardi white rum, triple sec, lemon and Coca-Cola) or their alcohol-free Pentire Paloma mocktail (Pentire Seaward, agave, lime and grapefruit soda).

The Botanist

Best for: after-work drinks

“Small plates, big vibes…” An expansive bar, restaurant and cocktail lounge with an outdoor area that catches the late-night sun in summer, this is a favourite spot with anyone who works in the area. Known for their weekend brunches and busy events schedule (there’s always special menus worth checking out), order up some bar snacks (crispy halloumi with spiced mayonnaise, truffle and parmesan fries) and explore their huge menu of drinks including wines by the glass, Hendrick’s Bramble cocktail (Hendrick’s gin, lemon, sugar, blackberry liqueur and blackberries) or Cruzcampo and Brixton Reliance pale ale.

Yauatcha City

Best for: beer and bao, cocktails and kombucha

Yauatcha City isn’t just for sitdown dim sum and sushi (although their full menu should definitely be tried), they also do bookable spots at the bar and high-top tables. From 4pm-6pm on weekdays, relax with a friend enjoying Asahi beers (non-alcoholic ones are available too) with either char siu honey roasted pork or pan-fried classic vegetarian bao veggie shiitake mushroom, pak choi and yam bean for just £6. Otherwise, check out their incredible cocktails including Szechuan Margaritas (Volcan Blanco, chilli, Szechuan pepper, lime, pineapple, agave and mezcal mist) – you can order group jugs or explore their alcohol-free range of tempting zero-proof spirits, kombucha and mocktails.

Best for: wines by the glass and early evenings

Want to catch a quiet drink in beautiful and comfortable surroundings? BloomsYard take their wine list very seriously with Vale do Homem Branco, Vinho Verde from Portugal; Crémant De Limoux Rosé from France and Triuno Organic Malbec from Argentina to name just a few. With spaces for celebrations, wine tastings and delicious “picky platters” of olives, houmous and freshly made bread.

Tank & Paddle

Best for: when you need beer and pizza

Cheering and fun, Tank & Paddle knows exactly what you want from a good bar and pub. Over two huge floors with live screens, order up fresh pizzas up to a yard long and enjoy Meantime beer along with giant games of jenga and a private area for parties with shuffleboard. Excellent offers include Dough Mondays (any regular-sized pizzas for only £8), Tank Tuesdays: the first 100 beers sold are only £4.50 and Tap Wednesdays (pizza and a beer for just £14).

Everyman Broadgate

Best for: a hidden gem

A luxurious yellow looking bar inside Everyman cinema.

Home to one of the most beautiful bars in London with an art deco-meets-the 70s flair, this is the place to get drinks before an indie film or to simply kick off your evening. Their movie-inspired cocktail list includes the Bridget-Jones tribute I Choose Vodka (Tito’s handmade vodka, cranberry, raspberry, lime and rose petals) while there’s plenty of excellent wine, beers, milkshakes and IPA to enjoy too.
